Can I fix it, if I didn’t break it?

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of research on trauma, and how it truly affects us…. Well, while researching I stumbled across a very good book titled “It Didn’t Start With You” written by Mark Wolynn. This book opened my mind to something called Epigenetics- the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself. Do you understand what that means? If you’re anything like me, it went over my head at first. So let me break it down, let’s say your grandmother had something traumatic happen to her as a child, well that trauma then gets stored in her DNA, which would eventually get passed down to your mother, and finally passed on to you. Deep right?! This blew my mind! So my question was can I fix it, If I didn't break it?

ABSOLUTELY! Will it be easy? NO

The beautiful thing for our generation is that we have so many resources at our fingertips, from podcasts, to books, therapy, and so much more. We have access to things our parents and grandparents didn't. Most of them had to suck it up and deal, and continue doing what they had been taught, which is what we are feeling the aftermath of. It's not a blame game, it's about compassion, and stepping up to the plate to do the work that they didn't have the chance to.

Knowledge is POWER, and a lot of our issues could be solved by simply being aware! Sometimes the hardest part is recognizing what is and has been holding us back, so that you can start to do the work and begin healing. Our DNA is literally like a hard drive, It has SO much information stored. It's our job to figure out what serves us, and what doesn't, and reprogram ourselves to remove the "viruses". Healing isn't easy, but it's worth it. Healing isn't linear, and it's not overnight, Keep doing the work, you owe to yourself and the future.

Much Love Family.
